Joint Implementation (JI) – One of the three market mechanisms established by the Kyoto Protocol. Joint Implementation occurs when a country invests in an emissions reduction project in another country to earn emission reduction units (ERUs). This allows countries to pursue climate change mitigation projects outside their borders to achieve their own CO2 emissions reduction commitments.
